1.Basic Information

Amanohashidate is a famous tourist destination known as one of the Three Views of Japan, located in Miyazu Bay in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, in the Kansai region. The distinctive sandbar has grown over thousands of years, reaching a width of 20-170m and a total length of about 3.6km. This sandbar is covered with about 6,700 pine trees. There are a variety of ways to enjoy Amanohashidate, such as viewing it from observation points, walking, cycling, moving by boat, and swimming at the beach.

Inenohunaya (Ine’s boathouses)

Around 230 boathouses line Ine Bay. This district was the first fishing village in the country to be selected as an Important Traditional Buildings Preservation District. The structure of the boathouses is such that the first floor stores boats, and the second floor is the living space. Access to Ine’s boathouses is by bus from Amanohashidate Station on the Kyoto Tango Railway (about an hour).

2.Reviews

I took a sightseeing boat, and the view of the boathouses from the sea was unique and beautiful. After a while on the boat, seagulls came and gathered when we threw food, amusing the passengers. I actually walked around the boathouses. Unlike the view from the sea, a scene full of life spread out. Ine is surrounded by a bay, and because there is an island at the entrance of the bay, the island prevents large waves. Therefore, Ine has almost no disasters even when major typhoons come, and because the tides are very small throughout the year, it is a good fishing ground.

Distant view of Amanohashidate

You can see the whole view of Amanohashidate from Amanohashidate View Land, and I recommend cycling afterward. The wind in the pine forest is comfortable, and you can see people walking. For those who have time or like walking, walking is also a good choice. There are signs explaining how the landscape of Amanohashidate was formed by nature, which is very interesting.
