1.Basic Information
Biei Hills (Bieinooka)
Biei’s hills are divided into two areas: Panorama Road and Patchwork Road. Patchwork Road, in particular, is known for its scenery where fields of potatoes, wheat, and other crops spread out like a patchwork. It’s used in many commercials and product packaging. Famous trees like “Ken and Mary’s Tree” and “Seven Stars Tree” are dotted in the landscape, and you can enjoy a beautiful view of Biei’s hills and Tokachi Mountain Range from the Northwest Hill Observation Park.
Fudo’s Waterfall (hudounotaki)
Fudo’s Waterfall is about 25 minutes by car from JR Biei Station, and about 20 minutes on foot from Shirogane Hot Springs. This waterfall is about 25 meters high, and it has depth, so it’s a very dynamic view.
Shirahige’s Waterfall (Shirahigenotaki)
Shirahige’s Waterfall (Shirahigenotaki) is located at Shirogane Kohako of the Biei River. The waterfall is 40m wide, 30m high, and the thin water falling from the valley’s rocks looks like white whiskers, hence the name.
Shirogane Blue Pond (Shiroganeaoiike)
The Blue Pond is a famous tourist spot for its blue appearance. The reason the pond appears blue is due to a combination of the aluminum-rich water flowing from the hot spring town and sunlight.
The attraction of the Blue Pond is that the blue surface of the water changes to emerald green, light blue, or milky blue depending on the season, weather, time of day, and angle.

Shirogane Blue Pond Illumination
The illumination of the Blue Pond is held from November 1st to April 30th, but be aware that from December to early April, the blue surface of the water cannot be seen due to snow. In this event, various lighting patterns express one story every 10 minutes, so that visitors can enjoy their favorite moments.
Rainbow and Biei’s Flower Fields
Biei is also famous as the “Town of Rainbows,” where rainbows often appear. In particular, the symbol of happiness, a double rainbow, has a legend that treasures are at both ends of the rainbow.
