Tokachi Mountains (Tokachidake)

These mountains have been formed over 2.5 million years. They are famous volcanoes, having erupted several times in the past. The latest eruption was in 1988, resulting in the closure of the Shirogane Hot Springs and a temporary ban on climbing. It was lifted in 1990, but caution is necessary as the landscape and climbing trails change with each eruption. Ash may obscure parts of the path, so careful attention is needed when climbing.

Roller Coaster Road

In Kami-Furano, there is a straight road with intense ups and downs called “Jet Coaster Road.” It continues for about 2.5 kilometers, offering beautiful hills and pastoral scenery. Driving slowly to enjoy the view is recommended. It may be hard to find on GPS, so using National Route 237 from Biei to Furano is advisable. Look out for signs along the way.
